How Do I Get a Residence at a DJ Club?
If you think you have what it takes to get a residence at a club in your town then I say go for it. But make sure you know what you are doing.
Getting a residence is not as easy as walking up to a club manager and asking for a job as a DJ. It takes some craftiness and rubbing elbows with people who know people.
So what do I mean by residence. What I mean by residence is when a DJ has a steady job with a club or bar. This is what you are seeking.
Clubs are in competition with one another to have the best music and the best DJ's have the best music. And DJ's also have a following, meaning they bring their own fans to the club which means more revenue for the club manager.
4 Questions to ask yourself if you are serious about getting a residency.
Question 1 - Have you got guts?
One of the first things you need to ask yourself is if you have the drive and determination to build your skills that are required to be a club DJ.
Having the stamina to do a three to four hour set is not that easy and you need a repertoire of music that is irresistible.
Having a great set of different mixes is a must for club DJ's and if you want to get a job as a club DJ then you need to be able to mix different genre's of music.
Question 2 - Have you got a fan base?
Developing a fan base will get you another step closer to being a club DJ.
When you approach an owner of a club you need to be able to prove to him/her that you can bring a boat load of people to the clubs with you.
Show them a list of venues you have performed and samples of your mixes.
Question 3 - Have you got the skills needed to do a fun live DJ set?
If you can get live video footage on DVD in a professional package with all your contact information on it then you are one step ahead of your competition.
Also, you need to invite the club managers and promoters to your venues. Leave an open invitation for the club manager or promoter.
To be honest chances are they won't show up but sometime they may send someone in their place and every now and then they stop by to check you out for a few minutes before moving on.
Sometimes they even show up at gigs that you don't invite them to.
They may be at the same gig with someone else and have to listen to you all night. So it's best to always be on top of your game you never know who is listening to you.
Question 4 - Can you sell yourself?
You also need to be able to "chew the fat". Hype your self up, give your self a little notoriety and push your name as much as possible without sounding arrogant. Talk to the decision makers not the field hands.
Don't waste your valuable time with people who don't have the power to put you in the position of making a name for yourself. Those are the people you want to rub elbows with and talk to.
Being a DJ is more than just mixing and scratching. People have to like you too. With these tips and tricks in mind you can make claim to your residency at any club.
Social networking is a lot more social with way more fun methods to relay your messages from one user to another. be the first to say good morning and the last to say good night. What more could a parent ask for when their baby's off to college than to use Keek Social Media .
